April 18 - Capitola to Willits, California - Willits is about an hour from Fort Bragg which is on the coast - Sunny again, warm about 25 C and windy - the Santa Ana winds are starting as is wildfire season - glad we are on the road away from the heat etc.  Heading north to Oregon - went through San Jose, Oakland, Richmond to San Rafael (home of San Quentin which we passed) on a bridge that had two decks the top deck west bound the bottom deck east bound- think we have seen it in the movies:) , Fremont, Santa Rosa, and Ukiah - traffic was brutal until well past Santa Rosa - saw numerous vineyards and wineries - Jaxon Keys, Italian Swiss Colony, Asti, Saracina also saw the Mendocino Brewing Company makers of Red Tail Ale.  Never made it to Napa Valley but US 101 north gives you a real vineyard fix as well.  Rolling hills covered with houses making way to rolling hills covered in trees, pasture and vineyards.  More pine, fir, cypress, willow trees as we travel north - haven't seen redwoods yet but will be travelling through the The Avenue of the Giants tomorrow.  The hillsides are starting to turn golden brown.  Also some orchards - saw a large  pear orchard .  Saw hillside that had been burned by a wildfire.  No photos from todays drive as we didn't stop - heavy traffic then the road got narrow and winding so not place to really pull over and take .  Did get a couple of photos of an unusual vehicle in Santa Rosa - it was parked next to us - Austrian made for Swiss Army - Radio vehicle, weighs 4500lb not armoured  and gets 15miles per gallon.

Cool huh!  Now we go from heat to cool weather - high 50's to mid 60's - a real change from the heat we where in - on our last beach walk in Capitola we both got sun burned tops of my feet as I was walking barefoot in the surf and George on top of head as he didn't wear a hat - crazy Canucks.
