April 19 - Willits, CA to Brookings, Oregon (pronounced Organ) :) we have been corrected.
Sunny, clear sky - cooler, air cleaner and clearer than in Bay area - on Highway 101 which is like 17N between Sault and Thunder Bay - two lane, winding, great views of hills and trees - farms horses, cattle, goats - saw herd of elk beside road - trees overhang road creating spectacular tunnels - Redwoods are amazing - they are so close to roadway (no shoulders) that you can reach out and touch them from the car. Went on the Avenue of the Giants - incredible - redwoods soooooooooo large and the fragrance in the forest was indescribable.
Further north - cooler and foggy - pass apple, apricot and peach orchards. Eureka, CA 15 C- time to get out shoes, jeans and jackets who knows even toques away with shorts and sandals - beaches here look like beaches along Lake Superior
13 C , windy and foggy - ah just like home. Passed another state prison at Pelican Bay - also saw sign for Fort Dick. Passed thru Smith River, CA "the lily bulb capital of the world" fields of lily plants. WOW.
Arrived safe and sound at our destination - we are staying in a beautiful guest house - it is larger than our own house - would love to transport this to the island - will be taking photos and will post tonight.
